A Moving Archive of Canadian Art

GEMS is an independent media platform documenting contemporary Canadian art through film, writing, and artist collaborations. We follow process, atmosphere, and the human presence behind the work, building a moving archive of how art is being made in Canada today. Neither gallery nor traditional magazine, GEMS operates at the intersection of cinema and cultural documentation — occasionally extending its stories into exclusive limited editions shaped by dialogue and context.

Stories That Linger

Our stories are quiet, deliberate, and immersive. We focus on atmosphere over spectacle, on process over performance. Each film and essay is crafted to reveal the inner rhythm of artistic practice — moments that stay with you long after the screen fades to black.

Beyond Documentation

We do more than record. Every encounter is a dialogue — an exchange that deepens understanding of the work and the world around it. Occasionally, these conversations extend into limited editions born from collaboration, where story and object become inseparable.

A Cultural Presence

GEMS exists to create space for reflection within the Canadian art landscape. Through sustained storytelling and thoughtful partnerships, we are cultivating a presence rooted in depth, intention, and cultural continuity — not noise, but resonance.

The Future We Are Building

We are building a moving archive of contemporary Canadian art — one that documents the present with clarity and care. Our ambition is to become a lasting cultural reference: a platform where artists are seen fully, and where today’s creative voices shape tomorrow’s memory.

Ali Khanafer, Creative Director

I’ve always been drawn to the quiet stories that live inside works of art ; the gestures, the doubts, the moments of clarity that shape what we eventually see on the wall.

We create films and visual stories that bring these moments to light, offering collectors and audiences a deeper connection to the artists behind the work. Our goal isn’t simply to present art, but to reveal the human texture that gives each piece its meaning. Every project we produce, from intimate studio portraits to curated collections of original and limited-edition works, celebrates the dialogue between creation and collection. For us, collecting is not just about acquiring; it’s about understanding, about entering the artist’s world and carrying a piece of it forward.

In the end, my work is about connection: between creators and collectors, vision and emotion, the artwork and the world it reflects.
