Laurence Thériault-Lainé explores through painting the dreamlike landscape evoked by popular allegorical and fantastical symbols. For her, fairy tales offer the potential to soar into an imaginary world. Her works capture the weightlessness and buoyancy that characterize dreams as moments of escape from reality, interpreting this lightness both literally and figuratively. In some of her pieces, she revisits the nostalgic attributes and feminine archetypes of fairy tales, as well as their role in our collective imagination. In others, the artist turns her attention to the nocturnal landscape for the magic and mystery it inspires. Overall, her work is an emotional and intimate exploration of dreams and their collective symbolism.
