Jérémy Paguet is a designer and visual artist based in Montreal, where he grew up. After studying plastic arts at CÉGEP, he discovered sculpture and decided to dedicate himself to design by enrolling in the environmental design bachelor's program at UQÀM.
His work reflects a deep passion for the refined manipulation of materials, as seen in creations like the elegant lamp "Flot" and "Spline" furniture pieces, which straddle the line between objects and sculptures. The pandemic marked a turning point in his creative process. Returning to the artistic passions that have driven him since childhood, he gradually developed a language that emerged from the space between art and design. By exploring various techniques and approaches, from collage to sculpture and bronze casting, he enriched his vocabulary and knowledge of materials. This led to an eclectic artistic practice focused on collecting and repurposing objects, industrial remnants, and waste, and infusing them with meaning—a sense of presence and memory.
His unique artistic language, balancing the precision of a designer with the freedom of an artist, manifests in pieces where the distinction between form and matter dissolves. This poetic of discarded materials opens a broader theoretical discourse on representing marginalized aspects of existence, shedding light on the emotions of disgust or indifference they elicit, while also symbolizing the ethos of present time.
